Gum Disease

Gum disease, also known as gingivitis, is a condition in which the gum tissue becomes inflamed. Left untreated, it can lead to more serious problems, such as periodontal disease. Our team at Our Valley Smiles is well equipped to treat gum disease. We will work with you to develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and lifestyle. In addition to treating gum disease, we also offer periodontal disease treatment.

Gum Disease Symptoms

Gum disease symptoms can vary depending on the stage of the disease. In the early stage, gingivitis, gum disease symptoms may be barely noticeable. The gums may be slightly red and swollen, and there may be some bleeding during brushing and flossing.

If gingivitis is left untreated, it can progress to periodontal disease, a more serious form of gum disease. Periodontal disease can cause gum tissue to pull away from the teeth, bone loss, and tooth loss. gum disease symptoms at this stage may include gum recession, bad breath, and loose teeth.

Valley Smiles is committed to helping our patients maintain healthy gums. We know that gum disease can be a serious problem, and we want to do everything we can to prevent it. However, we also know that sometimes gum issues do develop, and when they do, our patients are in very capable hands. Our experienced team is skilled at treating gum disease, and we will work hard to restore your gum health.

In most cases, we treat gum disease by cleaning the teeth and removing any infected tissue. This process is called scaling and root planing. Your Valley Smiles dentist may also prescribe medication to help control the infection. In severe cases, gum surgery may be necessary to remove the diseased tissue and promote healing. Regardless of the progression, we will find the relief you deserve.
